How it works
- Paste your text into the box above and choose how long it should last.
- Save text. You get a private link, a QR code, and a Share button.
- Open it on the other device: scan the QR code with the phone’s camera, or open the link there.
When the time you chose runs out, the text is gone.
Why it’s private
Most online clipboards store exactly what you paste. Some even warn you not to use them for anything sensitive. ClipPigeon works differently:
- It’s end-to-end encrypted. Your text is encrypted in your browser, before it leaves your device, and only decrypted on the device that opens the link.
- The key that unlocks it is part of the link, in the section after the
#. Browsers never send that part to a website, so we never receive the key. - We store only encrypted text. Without the full link, it’s unreadable, to us and to anyone who gets into our servers.
That means you can use it for the things you would hesitate to put in an ordinary clipboard site: an address, a Wi-Fi password, a note to yourself.
ClipPigeon and typical online clipboards
| Typical online clipboard | ClipPigeon | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can read your text | The service, and anyone with the code | Only someone with the complete link |
| How the other device gets it | A short code, which can be guessed | A link with a long secret key, or its QR code |
| How long it lasts | Fixed, often a few minutes or one day | You choose: 1 hour to 30 days |
| Delete after it’s opened once | Sometimes | Yes, with a check so link previews don’t use it up |
| Your devices in sync | Sometimes | Yes, with Connect device, still end-to-end encrypted |
| Ads or tracking in the app | Often | None |
| Files and images | Often | No, text only |
Delete it when you’re done
Choose how long your text lasts: 1 hour, 1 day, 7 days or 30 days. For anything sensitive, pick the shortest time that works.
You can also tick “Delete after it’s opened once”. The other person sees “Open this text?” first, so a link preview in a chat app doesn’t use it up. Once they open it, the stored copy is deleted and the link stops working.
For passwords, tick Hide it. The text shows as dots on screen until someone taps Show, so nobody reads it over your shoulder; Copy text works without showing it.
Use it every day? Connect your devices
Choose Connect device (top right of the home page), then Get a device code, and enter the code on your other device. From then on, every text you save on one shows up in Recent on the other, still end-to-end encrypted: no links or QR codes needed.
Good to know
- Anyone with the complete link can read the text until it expires. Share the link only with the person or device it’s meant for.
- Saved texts can’t be edited. If you need to change something, save a new one.
- Plain text only, up to 100 KB.
- No ads or tracking in the app.
- Recent keeps a list of what you’ve saved and opened, in this browser only.
